Catalog description

The course provides an introduction to philosophy, history, and sociology of education in the United States. Students will explore the evolution of the school as a shared institution in a diverse society, utilizing the social sciences to examine its relationships to race, class, gender, ethnicity, and disability, as well as the degree to which schools can and/or should contribute to social change.
