Catalog description

This course explores themes of sport and spectacle in the Classical world through the lens of art and archaeology with the aim of understanding how athletics was an essential component of ancient societies and cultures. Students will also appreciate how a study of athletics can inform us on broader issues of status, identity, politics, and religion in ancient Greece and Rome.
