Catalog description

Students will explore the diagnostic process including differential diagnosis and the use of the current diagnostic classifications systems by examining the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) and learning how to correctly use the DSM to make an accurate diagnosis as well as explore classifications, indications, and contraindications of commonly prescribed psychopharmacological medications for many of the most commonly diagnosed mental illnesses. Students will also examine issues associated with the assessment and treatment of mental disorders in a multicultural society.
