Catalog description

This course introduces the principles of materials selection for aerospace applications, emphasizing the importance of processing, properties, microstructure, performance indices, and design strategies. Students learn how to read material property (Ashby) charts, do multi constraint selection, optimize shape and hybrid materials, and account for environmental impacts. Course labs provide experience with applying testing, analysis, and selection techniques to relevant challenges in aerospace. Prerequisite: CHEM1100 (4 credits) fall
