Catalog description

This course prepares students to make the transition to advanced mathematics courses where the emphasis is on proofs and abstract mathematical concepts. This course covers standard proof techniques (direct proof, proof by contradiction, contraposition, cases, and induction) applied to fundamental mathematical objects (sets, relations, and functions). Other topics include quantifiers, set operations, equivalent forms of mathematical induction, equivalence relations, partitions, graphs of relations, surjections, injections, and cardinality. Prerequisite: MATH2300 (4 credits) spring
