INTRO TO FIBER OPTICS

Catalog description

This course introduces the fundamental principles and practical applications of fiber optics. It covers basic concepts of light generation, amplification, propagation, and detection. Additionally, it investigates characteristics, principles, and operations of optical and electro-optical devices such as lasers, light-emitting diodes, amplifiers, fibers, and photodiodes. Lastly, it discusses applications of optical systems in real-world cases. Laboratory activities allow students to operate various pieces of optical equipment, and to build an optical communication system. Prerequisites: ELEC2250 or ELEC2799 or ELEC2299 or ELEC2300 (3 credits) spring
