This course offers an in-depth foundation of virtual design and construction (VDC) tools through the lens of building information modeling (BIM). Students engage with VDC and BIM from two vital perspectives: the technological advancements that enable these tools and the practical applications within the construction industry. Students learn the fundamental concepts of BIM, gaining insights into its utility in various project phases. They study the entire lifecycle of a building, covering essential stages such as planning, design, pre-construction, construction, and operations. By the end of the course, students have a comprehensive understanding of BIM principles and VDC tools. This equips them with the skills necessary to effectively implement VDC in real-world scenarios that can enhance productivity and collaboration in the construction process. (3 credits) fall, spring
