Introduction to International Relations and Security Studies

Catalog description

Students are introduced to the major approaches and subfields within the discipline of international relations and security studies, including international security, international political economy, international law, international organizations, and foreign policy. The course provides an analytical foundation for understanding global politics, emphasizing the use of theory and evidence within a broader logic of inference. Special attention is given to security studies, examining key concepts such as conflict, deterrence, military strategy, cybersecurity, and non-traditional security threats. This framework will be applied in overviews of the major disciplinary subfields, with reference to both contemporary security challenges and historical cases.
