Catalog description

Examines social constructions of norms and deviance, processes used to control deviance, the impact of societal responses to deviance, and cross-cultural variations. Analyzes why some behaviors, differences, and people are considered deviant while others are not. Discusses formal and informal responses to deviance including stigmatization, criminalization, and medicalization. Course equivalent to: SOC 271.
