INTRO CLINICAL SETTNG

Catalog description

This course introduces students to the clinical setting and focuses on the development of basic physical therapy skills and procedures. Emphasis is on patient handling and mobility skills, including safety, positioning and draping, monitoring vital signs and physiological responses, bed mobility, wheelchair selection and management, transfers, fitting/application of assistive and adaptative devices, gait training body mechanics, wound care, and clinical documentation. This course will enhance the student's abilities to interact effectively and professionally with patients, caregivers, and other professionals involved in patient care. Classroom and laboratory learning will be enhanced by an integrated part-time clinical experience to provide students with exposure to the clinical setting with an emphasis on communication, collaboration, clinical practice standards, and the PT-PTA relationship at the beginner level. (Total of 40 hours of clinical Observation)
