Legal Concepts in Sport & Recreation Management

Catalog description

This course introduces the legal doctrines, major statutes, standards, and case law that establish legal responsibilities, rights, privileges, and controls related to the field of sport and recreation management. Students will become familiar with the legal system and its role in sport and recreation. They will study the U.S. Constitution, as well as relevant legislation and case law, pertaining to the sport/recreation industries. Contracts, personal injury, risk management, labor law, Constitutional amendments, intellectual property, employment, discrimination, Title IX, and antitrust are a few of the major areas covered in this class. Prerequisites: Junior standing or consent of instructor.
