Catalog description

In this course, students will survey and evaluate films about historical subjects, seeking to understand the role film plays in shaping popular attitudes towards history and trying to assess the sort of history that film versions of the past promulgate. The main business of the class will be watching films and then discussing them, primarily through E-mail exchanges and debates, a required component of the course. In addition, students will do two book reports and a research paper.
