Surveys major figures, philosophies, patterns and events shaping women’s changing roles and status within human society, origins of civilization to current industrial society. Traditional civilizations covered include Classical Mediterranean World, Confucian Asia, and Islam; significant emphasis will also be placed on understanding the impact of industrialization and modern political revolution both within the west and in the developing world.
