Pre-Clinical Preparation for Radiology

Catalog description

Preparatory course designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the clinical environment. Purposefully timed to take place prior to the start of clinical rotations, the course focuses on building foundational knowledge, technical readiness, and professional behaviors required for success in the clinical setting. Students will complete clinical clearance requirements, learn program systems and workflows (including Trajecsys), and review key orientation content that supports safe, organized clinical participation. Through guided instruction, structured practice, and hands-on laboratory experiences, students will develop essential patient care and procedural skills, including medical terminology, preliminary exam steps, and introductory positioning for common radiographic procedures (chest, abdomen, and upper extremity projections). The course includes image production concepts with associated labs and competency-focused lab testing conducted by Washburn University faculty to confirm readiness for clinical placement. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, professionalism, communication, and patient safety to ensure students enter the clinical setting prepared to meet site expectations. Prerequisites: Admission to the Radiologic Technology program.
