Section information text: Students in this course are introduced to aspects of professional functioning as a social worker working with clients with substance use disorders, including but not limited to: history, philosophy, and societal attitudes towards substance use; types of addictive substances; the relationship between the social determinants of health and substance use disorders; evidence-based screening and assessment; individual- and community-based treatment approaches; and ethical and culturally competent practice.
