Section information text: The purpose of this course is to guide students in developing an understanding of the process and concepts involved in reading and conducting research. This course is an introduction to the scientific approach to building knowledge and skills in research, including the importance of a literature review and use of peer-reviewed research in the evaluation of evidence used in practice. The course will focus on the interconnections between research, social work practice, and social work values in producing ethical research. Students explore research addressing vulnerable and diverse populations. This basic course is the first of two courses designed to prepare students to use the best available evidence to inform their social work practice.
