Section information text: In this course, students will explore and analyze the key tenets of many of the world’s religions, belief systems, and philosophies. They will consider a range of both traditional and contemporary religious traditions and these traditions’ possible opportunities to encourage social change. Students will demonstrate their understanding of course concepts and principles through a final presentation in which they analyze how their exploration of various religions and philosophies might have influenced or changed their own definitions and understanding of “religion” from the outset of the course to its conclusion. Through this presentation and other weekly applied assignments, students will gain the knowledge needed to identify the origins, history, beliefs, and practices of a variety of religious traditions.
