Section information text: This course addresses current public health issues and challenges affecting vulnerable populations around the globe. Particular emphasis is given to the social and economic determinants of health, theories of social justice, and strategies for addressing the global burden of diseases. Topics include poverty and health inequities; racism, oppression, and privilege; emergency preparedness; emergence and reemergence of infectious diseases; hunger and malnutrition in developing countries; migrants, refugees, and human trafficking; violence against women; and community building for health and welfare.
