Section information text: An effective healthcare information system is one that provides value by addressing the requirements of an organization and the needs of the individuals who will use the system. Such a system requires knowledgeable, ongoing management at each step within the complex process. Students in this course explore the technical aspects of information systems management, including key issues of systems design and development as well as system support and maintenance. Focusing on the systems development life cycle (SDLC) approach, students analyze and describe necessary steps in the cycle, such as identifying and selecting appropriate systems technology and data standards, creating requirements, evaluating security, and accommodating human factors in design and use. Additionally, students learn terminology, functions, and standards as well as the basics of information architecture and systems infrastructure.
