Section information text: In this course, students explore various diseases and disorders in children and adolescents. Students also examine the impact of these diseases and disorders on the physical, emotional, and social functioning of children and adolescents. Topics include diabetes, eating disorders, headaches, epilepsy, pediatric cancer, cystic fibrosis, asthma, and substance use. Health promotion for children and adolescents including nutrition and exercise is explored. Also, covered are insights into special issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder, stress, sexually transmitted diseases, and ethical and legal issues in pediatric and adolescent health psychology. Note: In addition to the course materials listed by the university bookstore, this course also requires that students have access to a video recording device and/or an audio recording device, which they will use in Week 8 to upload a multimedia Application using VoiceThread.
