Section information text: In this course, students assume the role of a criminal investigative analyst/profiler as they delve into an infamous serial murderer case. They explore a structured process of analyzing case file information from investigative, scientific, forensic, and behavioral perspectives in assisting the investigation and prosecution of violent criminal offenses. Within this process, students learn how to organize and analyze case file material through a neurobiopsychosocial criminal investigative profiler lens. They also examine common profiling concepts relating to victim/offender dynamics, crime scene characteristics (i.e., forensic investigative techniques), and the skills, competencies, and attributes needed to perform this type of investigative work as a criminal investigative analyst/profiler. Students will complete a comprehensive analysis of a case study using a neurobiopsychosocial lens.
