Catalog description

Section information text: In this didactic course, Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) students will build advanced knowledge and skills for providing comprehensive, evidence-based mental health care to adults and older adults. Emphasis is placed on the assessment, diagnosis, and management of complex psychiatric and co-occurring medical conditions commonly encountered in these populations. Students will refine clinical reasoning, psychopharmacologic decision-making, and therapeutic communication strategies through the integration of neuroscience, pathophysiology, and evidence-based practice. The course prepares learners to deliver culturally competent, person-centered care that promotes recovery, resilience, and optimal mental health outcomes across the adult lifespan. Course Sequence Policy: Must be the first DRNP (didactic) course. Cannot be taken concurrently with any other DRNP (didactic) or PRCM (practicum) course, except for the corresponding PRCM (practicum) 6634 course and DRNP (didactic) 6624 course. Prerequisite(s): NURS 6052 NURS 6512 NURS 6630
