Walden University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Section information text: In this didactic course, Adult–Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) students build foundational knowledge and clinical reasoning skills for providing evidence-based care to adolescent, adult, and older adult populations across the lifespan. Emphasis is placed on the assessment and initial management of patients with acute or exacerbated chronic health conditions. Students integrate pathophysiology, pharmacology, and advanced health assessment to inform differential diagnoses and care planning. Through case analysis, applied learning, and simulation, learners strengthen diagnostic decision-making and develop strategies for safe, patient-centered care in high-acuity settings. The course prepares students for progression into advanced acute care clinical practice and the management of complex health conditions. Course Sequence Policy: Must be the first DRNP (didactic) course. Cannot be taken concurrently with any other DRNP (didactic) or PRCM (practicum) course, except for the corresponding PRCM (practicum) 6537 course. Prerequisite(s): NURS 6052 NURS 6512
