Catalog description
Section information text: Communities around the nation have identified the need for resources to help people in various states of crisis. For these individuals, the ultimate goal for the criminal justice system is to refer them to the proper community resources rather than incarceration. In this course, students will explore how crisis intervention teams (CIT) provide a practical application of interaction with persons in mental health crises, as well as those affected by trauma. Students will also explore the legal aspects of intervention strategies, including de-escalating, defusing, and negotiating.
