Section information text: This course provides an in-depth exploration of ethical principles and standards in clinical psychology. Students will critically examine the relationship between ethics and clinical psychology, focusing on the comprehensive analysis of the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct, including the Preamble, General Principles, and Ethical Standards. By applying a five-step ethical decision-making model, students will learn to navigate complex ethical dilemmas in clinical practice, education, and research. Key topics include informed consent, confidentiality, duty to warn, mandated reporting, limits of competency, and managing multiple relationships. Ethical considerations unique to educational and research settings will also be addressed. Finally, the course will explore contemporary issues in ethical standards, including evolving issues related to social justice, preparing students to anticipate and adapt to changes in the ethical landscape of clinical psychology.
