Catalog description
This course is designed to help non-native English speakers with comprehension skills to achieve reading and listening fluency in English at the beginning level. Emphasis is placed on basic academic and cultural vocabulary, as well as reading and listening strategies which include self-monitoring, recognizing organizational patterns, context clues, and basic grammatical structures incorporated into reading texts and audio works. Upon completion, students should be able to use these strategies to comprehend basic academic, narrative, and expository texts in written and auditory formats.
