Spanish for Social Justice

Catalog description

This intermediate Spanish course develops conversational Spanish through the lens of social justice. Students examine issues both within the local community and beyond our national borders related to Latinx and Latin American and Spanish cultures in the world. Authentic materials such as audio, visual, text, guest speakers, etc. are used to facilitate intermediate spoken and written skills in Spanish for everyday conversations and interactions. By the end of the semester, students will reach the Intermediate Mid proficiency level established by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. Students who complete 250 or 251 as their first college Spanish class with at least a C receive six retroactive credits for SPAN 101 and 102. Prerequisite: C or higher in 102 or 103 or by departmental placement exam.
