Catalog description

Semester course; 3 lecture hours (delivered online, face-to-face or hybrid) 3 credits. Prerequisites: MATH 303 , MATH 361 and MATH 362 ; and STAT 208 or STAT 210 . Corequisites: TEDU 417 , TEDU 442 and TEDU 496 . An early and elementary mathematics methods course that focuses on the teaching of mathematics in the Pre-K through grade six classroom. The course is designed to teach pre-service teachers how to plan, implement and assess strong student-based mathematics lessons in today’s diverse classrooms. Activities and assignments will focus on research-based practices, effectively using a variety of instructional strategies and using math manipulatives to help students discuss their thinking. The class will help to position the pre-service teacher as a reflective decision-maker.
