Data Science for Business.

Catalog description

Semester course; 3 lecture hours (delivered online, face-to-face or hybrid). 3 credits. Prerequisite: BUSN 212 or MATH 131 or, MATH 139 , MATH 141 , MATH 151 , MATH 200 or MATH 201 or a satisfactory score on the VCU Mathematics Placement Test within the one-year period immediately preceding the beginning of the course. Introduction to the core concepts of data science for business students with an emphasis on data processing, visualization techniques and analytical methods in a business setting. Includes introduction to computer programming concepts foundational for managing and structuring datasets, building useful graphical representations and performing statistical analysis. Students will learn use of modern software tools, such as Microsoft Excel, R, Python and Tableau. The course is designed for students with limited background in computer programming and is not applicable toward the B.S. in Mathematical Sciences.
