Semester course; 3 lecture hours (delivered online, face-to-face or hybrid). 3 credits. Prerequisite: MATH 131 , MATH 139 , MATH 141 , MATH 151 , MATH 200 or MATH 201 or a satisfactory score on the VCU Mathematics Placement Test within the one-year period immediately preceding the beginning of the course. Introduction to the key concepts and techniques of data science and their applications in the health sciences. Students will gain practical skills in data acquisition via web devices, data wrangling, visualization and basic statistical analyses of the data using R. The course will focus on collecting and preparing data for health care settings and implementing basic statistical techniques including repeated measurement analysis. The course is designed for students with limited background in computer programming and is not applicable toward the B.S. in Mathematical Sciences.
