AI, Automation and Work.

Catalog description

Semester course; 3 lecture hours. 3 credits. The widespread use of large language models and related technologies has raised hopes and fears about the transformation of work. To what extent will well-paid and meaningful jobs disappear, and to what extent will human labor be extended and enhanced through artificial intelligence? Students will read social scientific research and other writings to understand the challenges and opportunities that AI poses for workers, placing recent developments in the context of a long history of disruptive automation since the Industrial Revolution.
