Mental Health Practice.

Catalog description

Semester course; 3 lecture hours (delivered online or face-to-face). 3 credits. Enrollment is restricted to students who have completed the first year of the Master of Social Work degree, students in the mental health certificate, or by permission of the program director. A case study, practice-based course, information is taught and delivered through a case study-based model. The course will review the problem-solving, analytical and decision-making tools required when working in the field of mental health. Managing coping with ambiguities will also be addressed. The course will review the practice-based information required when working in the field of mental health. The course will review stigma and mental illness, assessments, interventions and treatment modalities, crisis planning and advocacy. Also included within the course is the intersection of serious mental illness and the carceral system, serious mental illness and special populations, how providers can engage in restorative practices, and what family work looks like.
