Media, Health and Policy.

Catalog description

Semester course; 3 lecture hours (delivered online, face-to-face or hybrid). 3 credits. The course explores how media impact public health decision-making across levels of the social ecological model, from individual health behaviors to societal-level policy decisions. Major components of the course include (1) foundational theories of media effects and how they intersect with theories of health behavior and policy; (2) common methodological approaches for examining media content; and (3) case studies of media effects on health areas such as sexual behavior, violence, cancer, chronic disease and health care policy.
