Catalog description

Semester course; 2 lecture hours. 2 credits. Prerequisite: CHEM 301 . Concurrent prerequisite: PSCI 202 . Enrollment is restricted to students in the B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences program or by permission of the instructor. Part one of a three-course series designed to build on principles from prior courses to develop a deeper understanding of the multidisciplinary process of drug development, this course will explore concepts such as identification of a drug target, design/discovery of a chemical/biological agent, lead development and optimization, homology and pharmacophore modeling, biochemical/biophysical characterization, bulk manufacturing and process development, including concepts of Quality Control and Assurance and Good Manufacturing Practice, and the use of artificial intelligence in drug discovery and development.
