Catalog description

Semester course; 1 lecture hour. 1 credit. Enrollment is restricted to students in the professional Doctor of Physical Therapy program. The course introduces the profession of physical therapy, including role, scope, standards, identity and professional network. Emphasizes professional identity development, ethics, professional behaviors and individual and community level differences that may impact patient care. Provides an introduction to the history and evolution of the physical therapy profession and the roles of physical therapy extenders and other members of the healthcare team. Students will explore guiding documents issued by professional organizations and regulatory bodies and educational concepts that are related to personal growth, professional development and patient care.
