Advancing Precision Health Through Single-Cell and Spatial Technologies.

Semester course; 2 seminar hours (delivered hybrid). 2 credits. Enrollment is restricted to students in a graduate-level degree program or by permission of the course director. Students are expected to have a basic understanding of molecular biology and genomics. The interdisciplinary graduate-level course is designed to prepare students to critically engage with emerging technologies that are transforming biomedical research and clinical medicine. Through a combination of primary literature discussions, expert guest lectures and guided explorations of recent advances, students will trace the evolution of molecular and cellular profiling—from bulk genomics to cutting-edge spatial and single-cell tools. Topics include single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics and proteomics (and other emerging multiomics technologies), tissue architecture analysis, tumor microenvironments, computational pathology and 3D culture/organoid modeling. By emphasizing the integration of biological, clinical and computational perspectives, the course equips students to understand and apply these technologies in translational contexts such as immunology, oncology, regenerative medicine and precision diagnostics. Graded as pass/fail.
