Catalog description

Semester course; 3 lecture hours (delivered online). 3 credits. Enrollment is restricted to students admitted to the graduate program or by permission of the instructor. The healthcare system is examined as a complex adaptive system, a business enterprise and a constellation of collaborative practice partnerships. System, organization, decision and team science are explored as key components of the scientific foundation needed to optimize system effectiveness, sustain healthy work environments and improve population health. Emphasis is placed on integration of these sciences into effective strategies for team communication, problem-solving and effective care delivery during routine and emergency situations.
