Semester course; 3 lecture hours (delivered online). 3 credits. Enrollment is restricted to students admitted to the graduate program or by permission of the instructor. Leadership concepts are examined across a continuum of contexts ranging from leading self- to leading team organizations and macro systems. The impact of leadership and advanced practice roles on health outcomes are also examined. Emphasis is placed on the integration of leadership concepts with critical thinking and decision-making skills, to address complex healthcare situations and improve health outcomes. Communication and team-building skills are developed to promote a collaborative and patient-centered approach to leadership. Ethical and legal issues related to leading system-based care are examined. The significance of a spirit of inquiry, continuous professional development and lifelong learning are emphasized as essential components of holistic and ethical leadership.
