Semester course; 3 lecture hours (delivered online). 3 credits. The course provides foundational knowledge about the science of nursing and methods of scholarship for advanced nursing practice. Emphasis is placed on the integration of nursing’s unique body of knowledge with knowledge gained through cross-disciplinary knowledge exchange to address complex healthcare problems. The continuum of scholarly methods is introduced (research, evidence-based practice and improvement/implementation science), followed by an in-depth examination of evidence-based practice. Skill development in the areas of information literacy, critical appraisal of evidence, and synthesis of evidence is emphasized.
