Semester course; 2 laboratory hours. 1 credit. Prerequisites: APPM 381 and MUED 381 , or by permission of the instructor. Corequisite: MUED 382 . Enrollment is restricted to music education majors. The focus of this course is the development of the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully organize and administer a secondary school music program. Emphasis will be placed on program and performance structures, professional expectations of a teacher in the secondary setting, educator ethics and professionalism, communication, record-keeping and organizational strategies, student assessment, program recruiting and retention, classroom management, and culturally responsive and inclusive practices that welcome all students into secondary music.
