Catalog description

Semester course; 3 lecture hours. 3 credits. Prerequisite: EGRB 315 with a minimum grade of C. Enrollment is restricted to biomedical engineering students or by permission of the instructor. The course explores the principles and practice regarding the development of assistive technology for individuals with disabilities. The course will describe the current general approach to the design of assistive technology. It will also focus on select disability categories to focus on the specific human user considerations, available technology and design consideration in applying assistive technology to these areas. Students will be expected to apply what they have learned in the course to their assignments. Assignments will also require knowledge of SolidWorks, MATLAB and Arduino from previous courses, which will be used in solving various problems given. Students in the course will have a major design project for which they are expected to apply what they have learned in this course and their undergraduate engineering courses to come up with a solution to a relevant assistive technology problem.
