Semester course; 3 lecture hours. 3 credits. Prerequisite: EGMN 351 with a minimum grade of C. Concurrent prerequisite: EGMN 204 or by permission of the instructor. Design and analysis of nuclear power plants -- both existing and planned. Topics include survey of reactor types and common design characteristics; the conversion of thermal energy to electricity; the control and operation of nuclear reactors through an analysis of the coupling of the reactors and the power plant; reactor transient analysis; and nuclear safety design.
