Catalog description

Semester course; 3 lecture hours (delivered online). 3 credits. Enrollment is restricted to students with junior, senior or graduate-level standing in the College of Engineering or by permission of the instructor. Students will become familiar with basic aspects of computational fluid dynamics, including characteristics of the governing equations, finite-difference and finite-volume solution methods, implicit versus explicit solution algorithms, grid generation and numerical analysis. Emphasis placed on mechanical, chemical and bioengineering systems. Training in python coding and the use of OpenFOAM will be emphasized as vehicles for CFD investigation. The final course project will involve a student selected project relevant to current areas of interest in the College of Engineering.
