Catalog description

Semester course; 3 lecture hours (delivered online, face-to-face or hybrid). 3 credits. The introductory course covers concepts, policies and programs related to school-based mental health. The course includes an overview of school-based mental health professionals, their roles and functions in the school setting, and the ways they deliver services. Students will examine how social context, lived experiences and access to resources shape students’ mental health needs, help-seeking behaviors and engagement with support. Students will also examine preventive and responsive strategies used within schools to support the mental health and wellbeing of students, families and community members.
