Catalog description

Semester course; 3 lecture hours (delivered online, face-to-face or hybrid). 3 credits. The course explores student athlete wellness through a strengths-based counseling lens, highlighting how resilience, identity and cultural assets can shape athletes’ ability to thrive in sport, school and life. The course will examine the promise and the pressure of sport, from the joys of teamwork and achievement to the challenges of defeat, injury, and transitions out of competition. Through film analysis, case studies and conversations with community partners, students will also examine the intersections of sport and race, class, gender, sexuality, religion and neurodivergence, with emphasis given to identity development, mental health and career readiness.
