Semester course; 2 lecture hours. 2 credits. Prerequisites: BIOL 151 , BIOZ 151 , BIOL 152 and BIOZ 152 , each with a minimum grade of C. Dive into the dynamic world of scientific research with this engaging and interactive course! Through a project-based approach, students will craft their own research proposal while gaining a deep understanding of the research process. By the end of the course, students will be adept at critically evaluating scientific information and grasp the intricate, interdisciplinary nature of science. While developing critical thinking skills and exploring the ethical dimensions of research, students will gain insights from guest speakers who bring real-world research careers to life. This course will illuminate how science intersects with and impacts society, preparing students to begin their own research journey with a faculty mentor. Ideal for sophomores and juniors, the course also fulfills the NSF and NIH guidelines for Responsible Conduct of Research training for undergraduates.
