Catalog description

This course is designed to enable the prospective elementary school teacher to become cognizant of current affairs, problems, and controversial issues to promote competency using teaching methods and techniques in the social studies at the elementary school level. We will investigate issues that help us understand, promote, and facilitate instruction that help elementary school students construct an accurate and positive view of citizenship, promote civic ideals and practices, and participate in a democratic process. We will reflect on issues of social justice, equity, and global perspectives.
