A survey of exemplary items in the origin and development of American thought and culture from 1600 to 1865. Designed to provide an understanding and appreciation of American literary achievements through the study of the works of representative writers including Bradford, Bradstreet, Edwards, Wheatley, Franklin, Irving, Poe, Stowe and Emerson.
