This course examines the intellectual foundations of modern fantasy in the works of C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien. and others. Through reading essays, analyzing works, and conducting research, students will investigate fantasy's origins in fairy tales and Victorian literature, with a focus on how these writers used the genre to explore deeper religious and philosophical themes.
