Catalog description

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive care for women during pregnanc y, childbirth, the postpartum period, and their newborn infant. Students will learn about the physiological changes that occur duri ng pregnancy, the common complications of pregnancy, and appropriate nursing interventions. Students will explore the stages of labor and delivery, including the signs and symptoms of each stage, nursing interventions, and pain management techniques. The course will also cover postpartum care for women and their newborns, including assessment, education, and appropriate interventions for complications. Upon completion of this course, students will have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe, eff ective, and compassionate care for women and their newborn infants during the perinatal period. Prerequisites: ENG115, ISD205-AN, MAT125- AN, BIO101, BIO201, BIO202, NUR103, NUR104, NUR155, NUR156, NUR160, & NUR161
